How Made in Chelsea star Ashley James went from milking cows and being slut-shamed for her big boobs to celeb royalty dating David Walliams

A SHORT stint on Made In Chelsea would barely get most people a mention in the footnotes of reality show history – but Ashley James is unlike most.
The former reality star has cut out a showbiz career for herself over the past six years, dating famous men like David Walliams, flaunting the boobs she was slut-shamed for as a teen and ditching her Geordie accent.

Now, the 31-year-old, who grew up on a dairy farm with her hairdresser mum and motorway worker dad hangs out with the likes of Gigi Hadid at parties, and even earned a ticket to Jonathan Ross’ super exclusive Halloween party last week.
So just how did she wangle her way to the top?
A source close to the star tells Sun Online: “Despite having not been on Made in Chelsea for years – Ashley has made sure she turn ups to the opening of an envelope – and she always makes sure she’s papped on the way in, and out.

“You have to hand it to her, she may be everywhere – but she knows what she’s doing and she does it well.”
Here, Sun Online follows her journey from humble teen to showbiz queen.

Milking cows with hairdresser mum
Far from being the cut-glass Chelsea girl she appears, Ashley grew up on a dairy farm near Newcastle.
She had a strict upbringing and wasn’t even allowed to watch TV – but was always close to her parents, describing her mum as her “role model.”

Ashley’s parents have geordie accents
Ashley says she’s proud to come from a working class background – but still changed her accent to hide her Geordie roots.
“My dad works on the motorways and my mum is a hairdresser,” she said. “I’m proud of being working class.”
In fact, both her parents worked multiple jobs to support Ashley, as well as her brother and sister.
Her dad explains: “I left school at 15 to start milking cows on a farm. I had to work night and day to send Ashley and her siblings to school, but it was worth every penny.”

Ashley was bullied at school
It was at boarding school aged eight that Ashley acquired that fancy accent.
“I should have a Geordie accent – my parents have a Geordie accent,” she says. “I used to get bullied for being the not posh one so I put on a fake posh accent and it’s stuck with me all these years.”
Sexualised, slut-shamed and self-harming
Despite the bullying, Ashley worked hard at school, running for the county team and achieving Grade 8 at singing.

But things got harder as she entered her teens and Ashley began cutting herself at 13.
She later revealed: “I used to self-harm at 14/15. I used to cut myself. There was a lot of pressure when I was younger.
“I had big boobs from an early age, I was very sexualised and slut-shamed.”
At the age of 17 she was beaten up at a club in Yorkshire and decided enough was enough.

A year later, she left home for Nottingham University where she got a degree in English literature and French, later going to live in Toulouse, Paris and Reunion island.
From lifeguard and sushi chef to A-list party girl
We may have only known Ashley since her 2012 debut on Made In Chelsea but her path to fame began aged two, when she won the bonny baby of Northumberland competition.
She was always entrepreneurial, starting her first business at seven, when she would pick her neighbour’s strawberries and sell them back to him.

Her first job was as a chamber maid, and she later worked as a lifeguard and sushi chef. Aged 16 she got her first presenting job for BBC Radio Cumbria.
But when she finally got a chance to appear on TV in 2012, it’s clear Made In Chelsea wasn’t the right fit for her.
“I’m actually a really private person,” she said at the time. “It’s very difficult having people’s judgements. It’s always going to be tough to put very, very personal things in the public eye.”
She compared herself to a “chess piece” with the producers putting them in “staged situations”.

Everyday bra goals! I swear the grass is always greener in the boob world. Girls with small boobs always say they wish they had bigger boobs, and us big boobed girls wish we had small boobs so we can wear cute outfits without looking either prudish or having people staring at our boobs or presume we're attention seeking! *Eye contact please* Well, this is my new favorite bra for day to day wear as it looks amazing under everthing, especially if going to meetings or filming something where I don’t want to show off too much flesh. I've even been able to wear shirts unbuttoned low without looking ridiculous for the first time in my life! It gives great support (as does Toulouse!) and still makes me feel sexy. #notanad #boobtips #boobtalk #lingerie #noretouching What are your favourite bra brands? I'm really enjoying sharing my lingerie finds with you!

Ashley later worked hard to rebrand herself, becoming a digital presenter for Channel 4 and hosting the Clothes Show Live and backstage at The X Factor.
She also started modelling and in 2016 she formed the “Bittersweet DJs” alongside model Charlotte De Carle.
They’ve performed at high profile events with the likes of Gigi Hadid, Heidi Klum, and Nick Grimshaw.
Ashley admits to pushing herself hard with work, saying: “I’m really scared of not being successful.”

Ashley returned to mainstream TV once more at the beginning of 2018 with a stint on Celebrity Big Brother.
She survived until day 29, saying: “I had the most amazing time, I lived every day the best I could.”
Flings with Walliams and cheating allegations
But while Ashley’s career has flourished, her love life hasn’t been quite as successful.
After a brief on-screen flirtation with co-star Francis Boulle, Ashley dated Ollie Locke.
They split up over his sexuality but she later insisted: “Ollie and I are still friends. He said I am his favourite ex, which is good.”

A year after leaving the show, Ashley started dating her Xtra Factor co-presenter Matt Richardson.
Things ended in December 2014 on bad terms, with him telling the Mail Ashley “couldn’t stop cheating.”
“Oh no, I’ll never speak to her again … it did not end well,” he added.
A year later, Ashley met comedian David Walliams through mutual friends. When asked about the romance she would only say: “I wouldn’t comment on that.”
But despite his efforts to woo her with white roses and sweet cards, things soon fizzled out.

She later admitted: “I have been in love, quite a few times actually. I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic… I’ve actually been cheated on by most of the people I’ve been in love with.”
As Ashley entered the Big Brother house, she confirmed: “I am single now and have been for a long time. My exes are irrelevant to me.”
The star soon hooked up with singer Ginuwine, but three months later she confirmed they’d called things off as she “could not trust him”.

No doubt we’ll be seeing her at more glam events this week – hopefully she’ll spill the goss…
