With 2018 nearly in the books, WWE looks ahead to the annual Royal Rumble PPV, which kicks off not only 2019, but the road to WrestleMania 35 in New Jersey.
Following this past week’s WWE TV tapings for episodes of Raw and Smackdown Live airing on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, respectively, the card for the Royal Rumble PPV is beginning to take shape, with more bouts confirmed and new names set for the two big over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble matches.

The first names confirmed for both Rumble matches were R-Truth and Carmella, when each Superstar earned the right to enter the matches at the coveted number thirty spots after winning season two of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge.

Also confirmed for the men’s Rumble match is Drew McIntyre and all three members of The New Day. The women’s Rumble match will also feature Natalya in addition to The Princess of Staten Island.
Last year’s Royal Rumble match winners were Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka, both representing the Smackdown Live brand, and Nakamura went on to lose his title shot against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 34, and Asuka was handed her first defeat on the WWE main roster when she challenged Charlotte Flair and was defeated by the “Queen” of the women’s division.

Below is the updated card for next month’s WWE Royal Rumble PPV, taking place on January 27th in Phoenix, Arizona.

-Brock Lesnar (c) vs Braun Strowman
WWE Championship Match:
-Daniel Bryan (c) vs AJ Styles
Fatal Four Way Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Title:
-Buddy Murphy (c) vs Kalisto vs Akira Tozawa vs TBA
-The Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble matches, with the winners earning a title shot at WrestleMania 35 in April, 2019.
With the Royal Rumble PPV now featuring a women’s Rumble match in addition to the traditional men’s match, it’s likely only a couple more matches might be added to the PPV, which will feature a four hour main card and a two hour Kickoff show, as the Royal Rumble is considered to be one of the “big four” PPV events in WWE.

WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch continues to ramp up the momentum as she heads into WWE Survivor Series this weekend. Lynch will be facing WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at the PPV, while the women of the Blue Brand will face the women of the Red Brand in a 5-on-5 traditional Survivor Series elimination tag team match.
During tonight’s episode of WWE Raw, Becky Lynch did not wait until Sunday to take the fight to the women of Monday nights, as she surprise attacked Ronda Rousey and locked the “Rowdy” one in the Disarmher submission hold.

Ronda Rousey attempted to make a comeback in the final moments of the segment, but Lynch’s prior attack was too much for Rousey to handle, and Lynch was able to ground the Raw Champ after a steel chair shot.

At some point during the chaos on the Raw, Becky Lynch was left with a bloody nose, and by the end of the segment she was sporting a bloody face which she seemed to enjoy more than disdain. As of this writing, the severity of Lynch’s injury is unknown.

This week’s historic WWE Smackdown 1000 special kicked off with the new, unlikely pairing of R-Truth and Carmella hosting an episode of Truth TV featuring special guest Stephanie McMahon.
It did not take long for the segment, which was filled with dance breaks, to devolve into Stephanie McMahon praising herself as the original General Manager of the Blue Brand.

The segment also featured special appearances by current Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon, and an eventual appearance by Shane and Stephanie’s father, Vince McMahon.
The social media world has since reacted to the Truth TV segment this week, and you can check out some of the comments below.

Before the segment was able to turn into sibling rivalry between Shane and Stephanie McMahon, Shane thanked the fans in attendance in Washington for supporting Smackdown throughout the years. Shane then welcomed Stephanie to the “A” show, a claim with which Stephanie took exception, labelling her brand, Monday Night Raw, as the true “A” show and flagship show in WWE.
Vince McMahon’s music finally hit and the WWE Chairman and CEO made his long-awaited return to Smackdown Live to silence his waring children.

— TWC (@TheWrestlingCov) October 17, 2018

Once Vince hit the ring, he reminded Shane and Stephanie that the fans in attendance do not want to see the respective Commissioners bicker, but instead want to be entertained. After Stephanie McMahon took a shot at her father’s age by telling the WWE Universe that Vince was wearing his hearing aid in the ring, Vince put an end to the segment by calling for one final dance break featuring himself, Truth and Carmella.

The segment concluded with WWE Champion AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan hitting the ring for their big tag team match against The Usos. As noted, Bryan will be challenging Styles for the WWE Title at the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV taking place on November 2nd in Saudi Arabia.

WWE Smackdown Women Are Not Pleased With 'Evolution' Battle Royal Match Announcement

It was announced on WWE Raw this week that a battle royal match will take place at the upcoming Evolution PPV, and will feature names such as Carmella, Naomi, Nia Jax and more. WWE also announced that the winner of the match will get a future shot at her respective brand’s Women’s Title. As of now, the match will feature The IIconics, Ember Moon, Asuka, Mandy Rose, Alicia Fox, Sonya Deville, Carmella, Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, Naomi, Tamina Snuka and Lana, with more names expected to be announced leading up to the PPV.
The Evolution battle royal will also feature the return of former WWE star Torrie Wilson, who last competed for WWE in this year’s inaugural women’s Royal Rumble match which took place back in January in Philadelphia.

While the women of the WWE Raw brand have kept relatively quiet about the announcement of the battle royal match at Evolution, the women of Smackdown Live do not seem thrilled about competing in the match, expressing their feelings on the bout rather clearly via social media.

While not confirmed, the likely explanation behind the battle royal match booking is that the Evolution PPV space is going to be very crowded, with WWE previously announcing that the entire women’s division in the company, including the stars of Raw, Smackdown, NXT and NXT UK, will be present at the inaugural PPV. The event will also feature many names from the past, including Lita, Trish Stratus, Vickie Guerrero and Michelle McCool.

WATCH: Torrie Wilson Reacts To Being Announced For 'WWE Evolution'

In less than two weeks, WWE will present the first-ever Evolution pay-per-view, which will be headlined by Ronda Rousey defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Nikki Bella, and Becky Lynch defending her SmackDown Live Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair. On Raw, there was another match announced, which is a battle royal to determine a new number one contender for the Women’s Championship.
The names mentioned being in the battle royal include Asuka, Carmella, Ember Moon, The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Naomi, Nia Jax, Tamina, Alicia Fox, Lana, and Dana Brooke.
Another name who was mentioned includes former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson. In the quest to bring more fanfare from the past era, WWE is bringing Wilson in, although she was not a regular performer during her stint full-time from 2001-2008. Still, she is popular enough to bring interest to the match, which is most likely why she was included.

During the announcement, Torrie filmed her reaction of being a part of the match. Wilson was watching Raw while eating, and stopped eating her food and proceeded to do push-ups on the floor. She also tweeted this response about her being in the battle royal.
“Evolution Bound! Good thing my mantra year round is BEAST MODE.”

Before coming to WWE in 2001, Wilson spent two years in WCW, filling various roles but mainly gaining her popular of being the eye-candy manager of Billy Kidman. During her WWE stint, she was in angles such as managing Tajiri, feuding with Dawn Marie, being in a storyline with Sable, aligning with Candice Michelle and Victoria to join Vince McMahon, and managing Carlito, among many others.

During Torrie’s WWE stint, it was a time where females were highly used in gimmick matches, and she was a part of plenty. Some of these matches include a handicap bra and panties match with Candice Michelle and Victoria against Ashley Massaro and Trish Stratus on the October 3, 2005 episode of Raw, a bra and panties gauntlet at the 2006 New Year’s Revolution pay-per-view, a Playboy Pillow Fight at WrestleMania 22, and a Paddie on a Pole match against Candice Michelle on the August 28, 2006 episode of Raw.

Former WWE Star Makes Surprise Appearance At Impact Wrestling 'Bound For Glory'

The 2018 Impact Wrestling Bound For Glory PPV is taking place at The Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York, tonight, and during the big event Eli Drake issued an open challenge for anyone in the Impact locker room to face him in a singles match.
Drake had been hyping the open challenge all week heading into tonight’s PPV, and while speculation has been running wild as to who would be the name to answer Drake’s challenge, I don’t think anyone was expecting the name that actually showed up.
To the surprise, and apparent dismay of the fans in Queens, former WWE star James Ellsworth hit the ring and answered Eli Drake’s challenge. Before the bout, Ellsworth cut a brief promo on the mic, even dropping subtle reference to WWE star Carmella, without actually mentioning her name.

Eli Drake made quick work Ellsworth, dispatching the former WWE star via pinfall. After the match, Drake grabbed the microphone and demanded “real competition” at Bound For Glory. Drake’s demand was answered by the 2018 Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee Abyss.

On a related noted, Eli Drake was amongst the names in attendance for the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame ceremony in Manhattan on Saturday night, and appeared on camera during the ceremony’s broadcast on Twitch.
As for James Ellsworth, tonight is not the first time the “Chinless” superstar has appeared for Impact Wrestling, as he previously appeared for the company at a One Night Only PPV event special on Twitch, in between his most recent stints with WWE acting as Carmella’s sidekick. Ellsworth last appeared for WWE over the summer, briefly appearing on TV after making his return at this year’s Money in the Bank PPV.
