BREAKING: Major Title Change And Heel Turn On WWE 'Smackdown' Forces Change To 'Survivor Series' Match

The final stop on the road to WWE Survivor Series certainly provided a newsworthy two hours, as this week’s Smackdown Live featured the announcement of two major PPV match changes following the events which transpired on the show.
As noted, Becky Lynch suffered an injury during the invasion angle on Raw this week, and WWE confirmed on Smackdown that the Women’s Champion suffered a “broken face” and will not be competing against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series as planned. In Lynch’s place facing the Raw Women’s Champion will be former Smackdown Women’s Champion and Lynch foe Charlotte Flair.

The second major event which transpired on WWE Smackdown tonight left many fans puzzled heading into Survivor Series. It was announced earlier in the night that Daniel Bryan would be challenging AJ Styles for the WWE Title in the main event of the show, and the bout was indeed action-packed, akin to the last title match the two had prior to WWE Crown Jewel.

Much to the surprise of the fans in St. Louis, Bryan was able to successfully defeat AJ Styles for the Title to become the new WWE Champion.
The title change has major Survivor Series implications, as Bryan will now be facing The Beast and Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs Champion match at the PPV on Sunday night. Going into Smackdown Live this week, the bout was set to feature Lesnar vs Styles.

Despite all that occurred on Smackdown tonight, the WWE Title change was not the final surprise in store for fans, as Daniel Bryan appeared to turn heel on AJ Styles following his title win. The end of the show tonight saw Bryan pummel Styles in a post-match beatdown before standing tall over his downed opponent with his newly won WWE Title hoisted high above his head.
Following the events which transpired on Smackdown this week, below is the updated and likely final card for WWE Survivor Series taking place this Sunday night in Los Angeles.
-Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. WWE Champion Daniel Bryan
-Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair
-Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura

Major Name Being Advertised To Appear At 'WWE Crown Jewel'

With WWE Crown Jewel losing two of its top stars in John Cena and Daniel Bryan, WWE has had to make several last minute adjustments to the PPV to compensate for the lack of Cena and Bryan.
Taking Cena’s place in the World Cup tournament on the show will be Bobby Lashley, and AJ Styles will now be facing Samoa Joe for the WWE Title instead of Daniel Bryan, who had his WWE Title match against Styles on Smackdown Live this week.

As noted, during a recent interview with The Orlando Sentinel, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan teased a possible appearance at Crown Jewel when he said, “there are a lot of plans in the works. I’m looking forward to going to Saudi Arabia with the WWE, looking forward to WrestleMania — but yeah, we’re moving forward at a rapid pace. It’s exciting to have this opportunity again after all these years where I was there and gone.”

WWE News: Major 'Crown Jewel' Update, The Undertaker Announced For Rare Events In The UK

As we reported on Wednesday night, WWE has been aggressively scouting new locations for the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV should the company decide to scrap current plans to travel to Saudi Arabia for the event taking place on November 2nd in Riyadh. As of earlier this week, it had been rumored that both John Cena and Daniel Bryan notified WWE officials they do not intend to make the trip for Crown Jewel, putting several of the show’s top matches in jeopardy.
According to a new report by PWInsider, while tickets have yet to go on sale for the PPV in Riyadh, the first set of WWE officials remain scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia within the next day. The rest of the WWE crew will be traveling to the country following the next set of TV tapings, so as of this writing, it appears as if everyone in WWE remains under the impression that the event is taking place as advertised in Saudi Arabia.

It’s also worth noting that WWE announced a new title match for Crown Jewel on Smackdown Live this week, with The New Day set to challenge The Bar in a rematch for the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles. With WWE adding yet another title match to the event, and officials searching for a possible “plan B” location for the PPV, it appears as if WWE has no plans to scrap the event altogether, and should the event not take place in Saudi Arabia, it will most certainly take place at another venue, likely in The United States.

The shows will take place on April 30th in London, England, on May 1st in Glasgow, Scotland, and on May 2nd in Manchester, England.
The events will feature a rare sit-down style show with The Undertaker discussing his storied WWE career, amongst other topics. The three-night stand in The UK will be yet another rare out-of-character appearance for The Undertaker, as he most recently participated in a shoot-style interview with Pastor Ed Young for the Sunday Series.

WATCH: John Cena Joins Yet Another Elite Group Of WWE Superstars

John Cena’s exit from WWE’s upper echelon has been a slow and steady process. As the company continues on without him as the full-time face, Cena continues on with his new life outside of the ring.
Now he has added another element to that life. John Cena is now a New York Times bestselling author. His book is entitled Elbow Grease and is No.1 in the Children’s Picture Books category.

The book’s title character is a monster truck but he’s a monster in description only. The truck has four big brothers and the story follows Elbow Grease as he fights to prove himself by competing in a demolition derby. Cena’s fans will immediately recognize this type of storyline, as John’s WWE character always fought to overcome the odds.

RelatedJohn Cena Comments On Whether Age Has Affected His WWE Status
Cena’s literary accomplishments joins those of Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan, as well as Mick Foley. Foley was the first WWE Superstar to make the list with Have a Nice Day, followed by Foley is Good and The Hardcore Diaries.

A truly surreal moment….#ElbowGrease is a @nytimes #1 Best Seller! Thank you to everyone who made this a reality. Incredibly proud of this story and what it means for audiences of ALL ages and absolutely thrilled to be able to share it. pic.twitter.com/ppZseixf9B

John Cena’s writing career may or may not become a full-time venture for him. But it’s obvious that WWE’s former top guy is keeping busy outside of the pro wrestling business. However his time in a WWE ring is not over yet.
John will compete at Crown Jewel on November 2 in the Eight-Man World Cup Tournament. The match reads like a who’s who of the industry, as all participants are former WWE champions.

Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and The Miz will join Cena as they fight to prove who is the best in the world. Whether or not John will return to WWE programming before or after Crown Jewel takes place is unknown. Cena’s next big project is a starring role in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, set to premiere on December 21, 2018.

WWE Downplaying Saudi Arabia's Involvement In 'Crown Jewel'

WWE Crown Jewel is set to take place on November 2. But as pro wrestling fans are now surely aware, the event has been mired in controversy. That’s due in large part to Crown Jewel‘s location.
Saudi Arabia is the host nation for Crown Jewel but the government is now under a cloud of suspicion thanks to a journalist’s disappearance and possible assassination. The journalist in question is Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi worked for the Washington Post and has been an outspoken critic of the Saudi government. Now that he’s disappeared, many believe the Saudi government is behind it.

Now it appears that the company has decided to downplay Saudi Arabia’s involvement. WWE.com has pulled all references to Saudi Arabia from its Crown Jewel page. While this does not mean the event is changing locations, the move does seem to be an effort to quieten any negative publicity.

The story is ongoing of course and WWE has indeed been monitoring the situation. But according to PWInsider, Crown Jewel will not change locations. This may or may not come as a surprise to fans that have been following the story but sources in WWE evidently claim Saudi Arabia will still host Crown Jewel.
Crown Jewel will feature the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels as he teams with D-Generation X co-founder Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane. Roman Reigns will defend the WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar. The WWE Championship will also be on the line when AJ Styles defends the title against Daniel Bryan.

WWE will also introduce the first ever World Cup at Crown Jewel. The World Cup Tournament will be decided at the event and the qualifying matches are currently taking place on SmackDown Live.
WWE has yet to make any further announcements concerning Crown Jewel‘s status. The Floor Seat will continue to follow the story as it develops.
