Major Name Being Advertised To Appear At 'WWE Crown Jewel'

With WWE Crown Jewel losing two of its top stars in John Cena and Daniel Bryan, WWE has had to make several last minute adjustments to the PPV to compensate for the lack of Cena and Bryan.
Taking Cena’s place in the World Cup tournament on the show will be Bobby Lashley, and AJ Styles will now be facing Samoa Joe for the WWE Title instead of Daniel Bryan, who had his WWE Title match against Styles on Smackdown Live this week.

As noted, during a recent interview with The Orlando Sentinel, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan teased a possible appearance at Crown Jewel when he said, “there are a lot of plans in the works. I’m looking forward to going to Saudi Arabia with the WWE, looking forward to WrestleMania — but yeah, we’re moving forward at a rapid pace. It’s exciting to have this opportunity again after all these years where I was there and gone.”

Major Update On Replacement For John Cena If He Refuses To Attend WWE 'Crown Jewel'

WWE’s Crown Jewel event has been mired in controversy for several weeks. It began with fan complaints because once again, Vince McMahon’s company chose to do business with a country that would not allow its female Superstars to perform.
But those complaints became something much more following the death of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Fans believed that WWE should move the event to another venue or perhaps even reschedule for another time. WWE is moving forward however, though John Cena may not be along for the ride.

But according to WrestleVotes, WWE may have a replacement ready to go if John does not make the trip to Saudi Arabia.

I know injury concerns have been making the rounds, but I’m hearing Bobby Lashley is John Cena’s replacement in the World Cup at #WWECrownJewel
— WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) October 27, 2018

Barstool Sports recently broke the news that both Cena and Daniel Bryan were refusing to work the Crown Jewel event. While many fans were perhaps surprised at this news because of both men’s standing in the company, many more likely agreed with their stance.

Cena is booked to work the in the Eight-Man World Cup Tournament, which also features Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy and The Miz. The World Cup is a new addition to WWE and the qualifying matches for the tournament recently took place on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.

Bobby Lashley is currently not booked for Crown Jewel, which means WWE does not have to move him around in order to put him in Cena’s spot. It’s unknown if he will replace Cena on the card or if John will indeed be part of the event.
Crown Jewel has been a major focus for WWE, which led many fans to believe that Evolution has been overlooked as a result. Evolution is the first ever all-women’s pay-per-view and takes place just five days before November 2nd’s Crown Jewel event.

WWE News: Major 'Crown Jewel' Update, The Undertaker Announced For Rare Events In The UK

As we reported on Wednesday night, WWE has been aggressively scouting new locations for the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV should the company decide to scrap current plans to travel to Saudi Arabia for the event taking place on November 2nd in Riyadh. As of earlier this week, it had been rumored that both John Cena and Daniel Bryan notified WWE officials they do not intend to make the trip for Crown Jewel, putting several of the show’s top matches in jeopardy.
According to a new report by PWInsider, while tickets have yet to go on sale for the PPV in Riyadh, the first set of WWE officials remain scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia within the next day. The rest of the WWE crew will be traveling to the country following the next set of TV tapings, so as of this writing, it appears as if everyone in WWE remains under the impression that the event is taking place as advertised in Saudi Arabia.

It’s also worth noting that WWE announced a new title match for Crown Jewel on Smackdown Live this week, with The New Day set to challenge The Bar in a rematch for the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles. With WWE adding yet another title match to the event, and officials searching for a possible “plan B” location for the PPV, it appears as if WWE has no plans to scrap the event altogether, and should the event not take place in Saudi Arabia, it will most certainly take place at another venue, likely in The United States.

The three-night stand in The UK will be yet another rare out-of-character appearance for The Undertaker, as he most recently participated in a shoot-style interview with Pastor Ed Young for the Sunday Series.

WATCH: John Cena Joins Yet Another Elite Group Of WWE Superstars

John Cena’s exit from WWE’s upper echelon has been a slow and steady process. As the company continues on without him as the full-time face, Cena continues on with his new life outside of the ring.
Now he has added another element to that life. John Cena is now a New York Times bestselling author. His book is entitled Elbow Grease and is No.1 in the Children’s Picture Books category.

The book’s title character is a monster truck but he’s a monster in description only. The truck has four big brothers and the story follows Elbow Grease as he fights to prove himself by competing in a demolition derby. Cena’s fans will immediately recognize this type of storyline, as John’s WWE character always fought to overcome the odds.

Cena’s literary accomplishments joins those of Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan, as well as Mick Foley. Foley was the first WWE Superstar to make the list with Have a Nice Day, followed by Foley is Good and The Hardcore Diaries.

A truly surreal moment….#ElbowGrease is a @nytimes #1 Best Seller! Thank you to everyone who made this a reality. Incredibly proud of this story and what it means for audiences of ALL ages and absolutely thrilled to be able to share it. pic.twitter.com/ppZseixf9B

John Cena’s writing career may or may not become a full-time venture for him. But it’s obvious that WWE’s former top guy is keeping busy outside of the pro wrestling business. However his time in a WWE ring is not over yet.
John will compete at Crown Jewel on November 2 in the Eight-Man World Cup Tournament. The match reads like a who’s who of the industry, as all participants are former WWE champions.

Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and The Miz will join Cena as they fight to prove who is the best in the world. Whether or not John will return to WWE programming before or after Crown Jewel takes place is unknown. Cena’s next big project is a starring role in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, set to premiere on December 21, 2018.

Why Fans Should Not Expect To See John Cena In a Regular WWE Role Anytime Soon

WWE star John Cena, who has seen his full-time status with the company halted in the past two years due to age and his Hollywood movie commitments, last appeared in the ring at the WWE Super Show-Down PPV in Australia. At the event, Cena teamed up with Raw star Bobby Lashley to defeat the team of Elias and Kevin Owens.
Cena is next scheduled to compete in WWE at the upcoming Crown Jewel event scheduled to take place on November 2nd in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At the event, Cena will be participating in the World Cup tournament to name the “greatest in the world.”

With regards to John Cena’s Hollywood career, the sixteen-time World Champion has been in China filming Project X for the past several months, a new action movie co-starring Jackie Chan, and Cena is expected to remain in China for at least two more months. Following Project X filming, Cena will go into production for the new movie The Janson Directive, which will be produced by The Rock and his Seven Bucks production company. Cena has also been tapped to voice a character in Universal’s fantasy adventure The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, which co-stars Robert Downey, Jr of Iron Man and The Avengers fame.

According to a new report by Variety, Cena is currently in final negotiations to star in the Paramount Players movie Playing With Fire. The movie, described as a family comedy, revolves around a group of rugged wildfire fighters who meet their match when they rescue a trio of rambunctious children.

The Variety report does not indicate when production is expected to begin on Playing With Fire, however, with two major movie projects set for Cena before he begins filming the new comedy, it’s very safe to assume that wrestling fans should not expect Cena back in a WWE ring on a regular basis anytime soon. Going forward, it’s much more likely John Cena will make one-off appearances at big WWE events as his schedule allows him to, with 2018 seeing the leader of the Cenation appearing at pay-per-views such as WrestleMania, Greatest Royal Rumble, and the forthcoming Crown Jewel event which will mark WWE’s return to Saudi Arabia.

John Cena Responds To Fans Who Call Him A Hypocrite For Not Wrestling Full-Time With WWE

WWE star John Cena, who made his return to the ring at this past Sunday’s Super Show-Down, has been doing media rounds in New York City this week to promote his new children’s book Elbow Grease.
During a break from the media action, Cena stopped to talk with Adam’s Apple, and you can watch the entire interview in the above video player.
Photo: WWE
During the interview, Cena was asked about his ‘controversial’ new hairstyle, which actually trended on Twitter after his return at Super Show-Down.
“Originally I grew it out for a role, and some good fortune has come my way so I may have to keep it long, but I don’t know,” said Cena. “Everybody wants it short, so that makes me want to keep it long.”
Cena was also asked about his ex-fiancee Nikki Bella turning heel and possibly facing Ronda Rousey in a singles match, but the 16-time Champion was tepid with his response, simply saying “sounds entertaining.”

Finally, Cena was asked about his health and if WWE fans will ever see him back in a WWE ring full-time, an idea that Cena feels would not be the wisest for him at his current age.

Cena acknowledged that some fans might consider him a hypocrite for leaving his full-time role in WWE for a career in Hollywood, considering years ago he criticized The Rock for doing the same thing, but Cena admitted he cannot keep up with the full-time pace anymore.
“I feel the most healthy I’ve ever felt in my life,” explained Cena. “I’ve dropped 20 pounds, I’ve learned some stretching techniques over in China that my body actually feels great. But, full disclosure, I can’t run at the full demanding schedule at 41-years old that the current WWE Superstars do.
“I’m old guys. I’m 41, and performing 310 times a year isn’t what’s best for my overall health. I want to be able to run the streets at 80.”
WWE announced earlier this week that John Cena’s next match will come at WWE Crown Jewel in November in Saudia Arabia, as Cena will be competing in the World Cup tournament to name the “greatest in the world.”
