With 2018 nearly in the books, WWE looks ahead to the annual Royal Rumble PPV, which kicks off not only 2019, but the road to WrestleMania 35 in New Jersey.
Following this past week’s WWE TV tapings for episodes of Raw and Smackdown Live airing on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, respectively, the card for the Royal Rumble PPV is beginning to take shape, with more bouts confirmed and new names set for the two big over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble matches.

The first names confirmed for both Rumble matches were R-Truth and Carmella, when each Superstar earned the right to enter the matches at the coveted number thirty spots after winning season two of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge.

Also confirmed for the men’s Rumble match is Drew McIntyre and all three members of The New Day. The women’s Rumble match will also feature Natalya in addition to The Princess of Staten Island.
Last year’s Royal Rumble match winners were Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka, both representing the Smackdown Live brand, and Nakamura went on to lose his title shot against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 34, and Asuka was handed her first defeat on the WWE main roster when she challenged Charlotte Flair and was defeated by the “Queen” of the women’s division.

Below is the updated card for next month’s WWE Royal Rumble PPV, taking place on January 27th in Phoenix, Arizona.
WWE Universal Championship Match:
-Brock Lesnar (c) vs Braun Strowman
WWE Championship Match:
-Daniel Bryan (c) vs AJ Styles
Fatal Four Way Match for the WWE Cruiserweight Title:
-Buddy Murphy (c) vs Kalisto vs Akira Tozawa vs TBA
-The Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble matches, with the winners earning a title shot at WrestleMania 35 in April, 2019.
With the Royal Rumble PPV now featuring a women’s Rumble match in addition to the traditional men’s match, it’s likely only a couple more matches might be added to the PPV, which will feature a four hour main card and a two hour Kickoff show, as the Royal Rumble is considered to be one of the “big four” PPV events in WWE.

BREAKING: Triple H Suffers Injury During ‘WWE Crown Jewel’ Match

Triple H and Shawn Michaels reunited in a winning effort against The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel. The match was the main event of course and saw WWE’s four legends come together for a sellout crowd in Saudi Arabia.
But unfortunately, it appears that Triple H came out of Crown Jewel much worse for wear. According to WWE, The Game has apparently suffered a torn pectoral muscle. Hunter is expected to return to the states for surgery.
The match between D-Generation X and The Brothers of Destruction was both extremely physical and highly intense. Fans in attendance responded overwhelmingly positive to the bout, which may have surprised some critics.

Crown Jewel also saw AJ Styles retain his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe. The Bar retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day and Brock Lesnar became the new Universal champion after beating Braun Strowman.
One of the biggest surprises of the night took place when Shane McMahon won the World Cup Tournament. McMahon was at ringside during the tournament final between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler when Miz was supposedly injured outside of the ring. Rather than forfeit the match for SmackDown Live, Shane stepped in for the injured A-Liser and won the cup for the blue brand.

Injured WWE Star Gives Huge Update On In-Ring Return Plus The Latest On Erick Rowan's Injury Status

WWE star Fandango is currently out of action with a torn labrum, and has not competed in a WWE ring since July of this year. Following the injury, The Fashion Police team member underwent surgery, and according to a new post on social media, he is halfway through his recovery process. Given Fandango has been out since July, his latest update would mean he is about three months away from an in-ring return.
“Half way back to the ring babes. Thanks for all the well wishes. Fandango from wrestling”, Fandango noted on Instagram.

Meanwhile, one half of the former WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champion The Bludgeon Brothers, Erick Rowan, is also sidelined with an injury.
During his match against The New Day at WWE SummerSlam this year, Rowan suffered a biceps injury which later required surgery.
