WWE News: Buddy Murphy Taking Hiatus From TV, Raw Viewership Hits New High, Steve Austin On KO Using The Stunner

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy has announced on social media that he will be taking a “well deserved vacation”, and subsequently will be off WWE TV for the next several weeks.
“I would like to officially announce that I will not be on 205 Live for the foreseeable future,” Murphy announced on Twitter.

It appears as if right now might be a good time for Murphy to take a break from action, as 205 Live just announced the “Buddy Murphy Classic” to determine who will next challenge the Champion for his Cruiserweight Title. Murphy’s return to TV has yet to be announced, and it’s worth noting he will not be vacating the Title while on vacation.

Raw Viewership Hits Another New High
As noted, viewership for last week’s episodes of Raw and Smackdown Live, which followed the Elimination Chamber PPV, saw both brands bring in the highest amount of viewers for their respective shows so far in 2019.
According to ShowBuzz Daily, this week’s episode of Smackdown saw a decrease in viewership from last week, despite the surprise return of Kevin Owens. This week’s show averaged 2.150 million viewers, which is down from last week’s 2.269 million viewership average.

RelatedRoman Reigns Opens Up About His Leukemia Battle On 'GMA', Talks 'Raw' Return And New Movie With The Rock
Raw, on the other hand, took in the highest amount of viewers since the post-SummerSlam episode of the show back in 2018, averaging 2.922 million viewers for a show which featured the advertised return of Roman Reigns.
The first hour of Raw this week actually took in over 3 million viewers for the second straight week, averaging 3.167 million.
Steve Austin On Kevin Owens Using The Stunner
As noted, following his return to television, Kevin Owens will now be using the Stone Cold Stunner as his finishing move going forward. It’s worth noting that Owens will not be dropping the pop-up power bomb, but will be adding the Stunner to his offense as WWE feels it will help KO get over more as a babyface since the move is tied to legendary WWE babyface Steve Austin.
The Texas Rattlesnake actually commented on Kevin Owens using The Stunner, as seen in the Tweet below.

Highly effective. When executed properly the results are complete devastation. RT @briantheguppie: 1998

— Steve Austin (@steveaustinBSR) February 27, 2019

It looks like Austin is a fan of the former Universal Champion using his signature finishing move, and Kevin Owens has noted in the past that he has had discussions with Austin about using the move, and Austin has always given his blessing.

Major Update On Whether Batista Will Be Competing For WWE Following 'WrestleMania 35'

WWE star-turned-actor Dave “Batista” Bautista made his surprise TV return on Raw Monday night, and attacked Ric Flair during what was supposed to be The Nature Boy’s 70th birthday celebration. Following the attack, Batista called out Triple H, and a match pitting The Animal vs The Game is expected to take place at WrestleMania 35, however WWE has yet to announce the bout officially.
According to The Wrap, the match is indeed expected to take place, but the question remains how long Batista’s current run is expected to last, and whether or not he will be sticking around with WWE following WrestleMania.
“The person with knowledge of Batista-HHH at WrestleMania was not certain on the length of Bautista’s return, but thinks it would just be for the April 7 event at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium,” reads The Wrap report.
Photo: WWE
It should be noted that Batista just landed a role in the upcoming remake of the classic film Dune, and production on the film is expected to begin “early this year”, however the exact start date remains unknown.

RelatedBatista Says The Rock Is Not A Great Actor, Reveals Why He Hates Being Compared To Rock & John Cena In Hollywood
In the past, when speaking about a possible WWE return, Batista has noted that he wants his final run in the company to be full-time, as he expressed particular interest in working non-televised live events, because be really enjoys the vibe of live events compared to TV.
Photo: WWE
Batista has also indicated in the past that a run in WWE, culminating in a match against Triple H at WrestleMania, would be how he wants his pro wrestling career to end, making it more likely than not that WrestleMania 35 might be the last time fans see The Animal in a WWE ring.
Batista has been reluctant in the past to accept a WWE Hall of Fame induction as he feels his in-ring career is not yet over, and he wants to go out with a storyline he feels makes sense, so the Triple H angle leading up to WrestleMania 35 might be the final program that sends Batista into the Hall of Fame in 2020, should WWE make an offer.
Earlier this week, we revealed when Batista is expected to make his next appearance on Raw, and you can read that spoiler report at this link.

Major Update On Whether Braun Strowman Will Compete At 'WWE TLC'

Braun Strowman, unfortunately, had his momentum thwarted due to being forced to have surgery on his elbow. Along with knee issues, reported by the Wrestling Observer, Strowman needed some time to recover from nagging injuries, which was why he was written off by being attacked by Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, and Bobby Lashley.
As of now, Strowman is booked to compete against Corbin at the TLC pay-per-view this Sunday. If Strowman wins, he will compete against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble. However, if Corbin wins, he will be the permanent General Manager of the Raw brand.

RelatedHuge Injury Update On WWE Star Braun Strowman
Although Strowman is still out recovering from injury, WWE is still promoting his TLC match against Corbin.

— WWE (@WWE) December 11, 2018

Despite promoting Strowman for TLC, it does appear that he will be competing. According to WrestleVotes, Strowman most likely will not be competing against Corbin at the show.
“Braun Strowman is still not likely to compete Sunday at TLC. So much so, that on the holiday tours, John Cena will wrestle in his place. Strowman will still appear at the holiday tour shows, just won’t work. So I can’t see him working a TLC match.”

The countdown to my return and your end starts now. #TickTock pic.twitter.com/FedLhQ3HEz
— Braun Strowman (@BraunStrowman) November 28, 2018

Although Cena is not confirmed to make a surprise appearance at TLC, he is scheduled to return on December 26 and will be competing on non-televised events until his next film, which he will start airing in Vancouver on January 20.
As promoted on Raw, Corbin is expecting to win by forfeit and become the permanent GM. However, with Vince McMahon appearing on Raw, there could be some interesting scenarios that come out of TLC. With Strowman likely out, Corbin either could actually win by forfeit, or someone else could come in the stead of Strowman and defeat Corbin. This could lead to Vince firing Corbin on Raw and doing the Superstar Shake-up on the show.

WATCH: Becky Lynch Bloodied As Smackdown Women Invade WWE Raw

WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch continues to ramp up the momentum as she heads into WWE Survivor Series this weekend. During tonight’s episode of WWE Raw, Becky Lynch did not wait until Sunday to take the fight to the women of Monday nights, as she surprise attacked Ronda Rousey and locked the “Rowdy” one in the Disarmher submission hold.

Original WWE Plans For Dean Ambrose Heel Turn Revealed

After many weeks of teasing his departure, Dean Ambrose turned his back on Seth Rollins following their Raw Tag Team Championship victory by defeating Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. Shockingly, even though they just won the tag team titles, Ambrose viciously attacked his Shield brethren, then proceeded to walk up the crowd section into the hallway.
Although the way the turn happened was shocking, the actual turn itself was expected by many. In fact, there was a strong speculation that Ambrose was going to turn against Rollins at the end of 2017 when they had the tag team titles, but Ambrose was injured and shelved for eight months.
Photo: WWE
With the unfortunate announcement of Roman Reigns leaving the ring and forfeiting his Universal Championship due to battling leukemia, this reportedly made plans change regarding the direction of Ambrose’s heel turn.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Ambrose heel turn was sped up due to the emotion of the night, as this method was considered to be more effective than taking the weekly twists and turns to eventually get to that moment.
Photo: WWE
It was also reported that Ambrose’s turn was slated to lead to a title program with Roman Reigns. The expectation was for Ambrose to initially feud with Rollins, since that was supposed to be the plan last year heading into this year’s WrestleMania in New Orleans. However, with the report of a Reigns vs. Ambrose title feud, it looks like the Ambrose turn would have led to another twist.

RelatedSeth Rollins Reveals Which Member Of The Shield Is Most Likely To Turn Heel
As we recently reported, The Shield was scheduled to compete as a unit on the Raw go-home show in Washington, D.C. leading into WrestleMania 35. However, with Reigns’ announcement, The Shield as a trio was forced to disband, and plans changed regarding the course of Ambrose’s turn. Even if a reunion occurred before WrestleMania, it would not make much sense now, since Reigns will be shelved for the foreseeable future.

WWE News: Top Heel Slated For A Major Long-Term Babyface Turn

As a result of the shocking announcement made by Roman Reigns that he is once again battling leukemia and is forced to relinquish his WWE Universal Championship, the main event for the Crown Jewel event has now been changed to a singles match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman for the now-vacant title.
For the past couple of months, Strowman returned to being a heel after becoming one of the most cheered people on the roster. However, to opposite The Shield, Strowman aligned with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler in an attempt to take out the Hounds of Justice.
At the Melbourne, Australia Super Show-Down event, The Shield was able to best the Dogs of War. However, Strowman, McIntryre, and Ziggler were able to gain some momentum on a following Raw episode, but eventually, again be one-upped by The Shield. The Dogs of War trio dissolved after the dissension between Strowman and the then-Raw Tag Team Champions McIntyre and Ziggler become feverish, with Strowman powerslamming Ziggler, followed by a Claymore kick to Strowman from McIntyre.

Following the Reigns announcement on Raw, Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo to both show his respect to Reigns, as well as transition into the Crown Jewel main event. The feud between Strowman and McIntyre escalated as Strowman caught yet another Claymore kick.

— WWE (@WWE) October 23, 2018

While it is evident that Strowman is once again a babyface and McIntyre remains one of the top heels of the company, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio revealed future plans for McIntyre.
“Drew [McIntyre]’s long-term is gonna be as a babyface. I think that’s pretty clear.”
Right now, WWE is looking for another face of the company, since Reigns has clearly been the heir apparent to John Cena. Meltzer added that McIntyre could be groomed to be the new face of the company, since Strowman is “one-dimensional.”
“[Strowman] could be the stop-gap guy,” said Meltzer. “I don’t see him as the long term, but, perhaps he will be. He’s the most popular guy right now, so he’s back as a babyface.”

Vince McMahon was set to take his wrestling promotion to Riyadh for the event on November 2 after signing a mega multi-year deal.

WWE news: Meet Eddie Dennis… the ex-school headteacher turned WWE superstar and soon-to-be star of NXT UK

Category : Sport , WWE , WWE Raw , WWE SmackDown Live

EVERYONE has one teacher you either love or hate… but not everyone has one that is a WWE superstar.
Well that is the case for Eddie “Pride of Wales” Dennis’ former pupils as the former principal prepares to make his bow on prime television tonight.
Former principal Eddie Dennis is set for the big time ahead of his prime time TV debut tonightWWE
Originally from Ammanford in Carmarthenshire, the 32-year-old began teaching in Cardiff before switching to a school in Berkshire seven years ago.
The ex-Maths teacher was able to keep his focus in the classroom despite going on to become one of the biggest names on the UK wrestling scene as he earned the position of head teacher.
But it was not long before the secret was out, as Dennis explained to SunSport.
He said: “I tried to keep it to myself for a while but it was not too long before some of the kids were smart enough to find me wrestling on Youtube.
“We then ended up doing some charity wrestling shows at the school, and that was lovely, raised a lot of money for Sport Relief and nothing kills any rumours like doing it in front of them.
The Welshman is hoping to make NXT UK an unmissable hour of TVWWE
NXT UK will air alongside WWE’s regular NXT and 205 Live showsWWE
“And if you conduct yourself in a professional way I don’t think there was too much distraction and they saw me very much as their head teacher and not a professional wrestler.”
Having gained such a senior position at such a young age and a fine reputation for himself in the ring, Dennis was forced to choose between his two passions in the summer of 2017.

EVOLUTION How to watch and travel to WWE PPV plus match card

And it was the success that followed WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne and fellow British star Tyler Bate that persuaded him to put down his marker pen and pull on the tights full-time.
And with the historic announcement last week that WWE are beginning to air NXT UK live at 8pm in Britain on their network from tonight, Dennis’ gamble appears to have paid off.

WWE star Big Show returns to help The Bar win tag-team title at SmackDown 1000

The Welshman said: “My career in teaching grew at the same time as my professional wrestling so I was kind of training in both at the same time.
“Suddenly I found myself with the headship but it was very difficult to be doing something else on the side.
“So I was faced with a decision to make on which career took a back seat, but if the first UK Championship tournament hadn’t happened and I had not seen Pete and Tyler succeed the way they did the result would have probably been different.
“But WWE coming over here and giving a chance to the British wrestling scene gave me the confidence and belief there was a real career to be made being a wrestler in the UK.
“It’s 15 months since I walked away from the desk, I’ve ticked a lot of boxes in that time, and hopefully I’m proving I made the right choice.”
Dennis is no stranger to the big time having wrestled for Progress at Wembley Arena last month in the biggest independent British show this century.

Now after the huge announcement from Triple H last week, he and the other grapplers on the UK brand are aiming to make the show an “unmissable” watch after earning an “eternal” place in wrestling history.
Dennis said: “I found out about an hour before everyone else about NXT UK being shown and I’m super excited to see the hard work that we’ve produced has a home on the Network at prime time.
“It’s probably the largest archive of professional wrestling in the world, so for it to probably sit there forever makes our work eternal.
“It’s been a crazy year. I got injured back in January so for the first six months I really didn’t do any wrestling. But since then I’ve been working for WWE and wrestled on the biggest independent British show in front of 4,500 people in Wembley Arena – that was pretty spectacular. I’m trying to make up for lost time.

“Now it’s about putting on the best hour of quality television that we can. I consider myself a wrestling fan as well as a professional, and I consider the American NXT to be an unmissable hour of wrestling TV.
“Now I want the UK brand to be the same and 2019 is going to be a huge year for us, but what that means for us is still up in the air.
“But to make the show an unmissable watch is the goal for everyone backstage.”

Moments after downing McGregor with a rear naked choke, the Russian jumped out of the octagon to confront Dillion Danis, sparking wild scenes and a mass brawl.
That followed months of bad blood between the pair, with McGregor receiving community service and ordered to attend anger management courses after attacking Nurmagomedov’s bus at the Barclays Centre in New York in April.
Rousey, the former women’s bantamweight champ in UFC, is now forging a fine career for herself in the world of wrestling after joining WWE earlier this year and becoming Raw women’s champion.

When asked if she believes Khabib should be punished for his actions at UFC 229, Rousey hinted that McGregor is receiving “special treatment” from the organisation as he is the “bigger draw.”
She said: “I think, if you’re gonna draw the line there, you should have drawn it before that.
“I just feel like there has to be equal treatment all the way across the board. I don’t think that anyone should get special treatment because they’re a bigger draw.

“I would be much more strict about everything. I say you get popped for steroids once, you’re banned for life. You know, but then again I’m not the promoter of a multi-million dollar organization.
“It’s just you have to think about, you know, from their perspective when is it not worth it anymore? I don’t want the company to be prioritising this quarter over the next 10 years.”
“I don’t want it to get to the point where people are not buying tickets to go see fights live, because they are afraid of what could happen in the arena.”
