New XFL Partnership
The following press release has been issued:
XFL Partners with The Spring League to Reimagine Football
Stamford, Conn., January 30, 2019 – The XFL today announced that it has formed a partnership with The Spring LEague, an elite professional football development organization, to test changes to rules and gameplay as it works to reimagine the game when it kicks off in 2020. Testing during The Spring League’s upcoming season follows the XFL’s first testing session conducted last month, which featured two Mississippi-based junior college teams.
The Spring League will take the field in Austin, Texas from March 28 to April 11 and will provide players the opportunity to showcase their ability in front of the XFL, NFL and other professional football talent evaluators. While doing so, coaches will work closely with football operations executive from the XFL to blend in on-field adjustments the league has been researching and developing since announcing its return just over a year ago.
“We believe that conducting live R&D sessions to test out potential game adjustments in real time is critical,” Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner & CEO. “Puttung the best product on the field is out number one priority and thanks to partners like The Spring League, we are confident that the changes we eventually decide to deploy will have the desired effect and we will deliver outstanding football when we kick off.”
“This is an exciting partnership for The Spring League,” said Brian Woods, CEO of The Spring League, “We applaud the XFL’s effor to reimagine the game and simultaneously provide out players and additional opportunity to display their talents for the XFL coaches and scouts in attendance.”
In early December, XFL football operations personnel worked with the National Junior College Athletic Association and two member schools, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Pearl River Community College, to conduct its first live R&D session.
“The feedback we recieved from the players, coached and game officials who participated in our three R&D sessions in December was hugely beneficial,” said Doug Whaley, XFL Senior Vice President of Football Operations. “We’re excited to take that feedback, as well as observations from the hundreds of hours of tape we captured, and put these new adjustments on the field in real time with the incredibly talented players of The Spring League attracts.

WWE Reacts To Conor McGregor Offering To Provide 'Back Up' For Current WWE Champion

For years, fans of both MMA and WWE have felt that UFC Superstar Conor McGregor would be a great fit for the Squared Circle if he ever decided to transition from The Octagon. The outspoken Irish-born McGregor has been likened to great pro wrestling heels of the past, and much like Ronda Rousey, might be a welcome addition to the WWE roster.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have both made public statements in recent years making it clear Conor McGregor has an open invitation to test out his skills in a pro wrestling ring, and earlier this week the “Notorious” one had WWE fans buzzing when he issued a Tweet to fellow countryman and WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, which prompted the following social media exchange.

Call me when you need Proper back up.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 22, 2018

Cheers, Conor. I’m carrying two divisions at the moment, but you know exactly how that is. I hear New York is nice in the spring, though. https://t.co/51VSVCCG28
— The Man (@BeckyLynchWWE) November 22, 2018

WWE.com even picked up on the Twitter banter between the WWE and UFC greats, writing, “it looks like Becky Lynch has an ally in fellow countryman Conor McGregor.
“The SmackDown Women’s Champion responded to an article comparing her meteoric rise to McGregor, boasting “The Man channels no one” and that she would break their Irish bond (and his arm) if their paths should happen to cross.

“Lynch, who’s had absolutely no issues holding her own as champion, then thanked McGregor for his offer and mentioned “New York is nice in the spring,” alluding to the fact that WrestleMania 35 will be hosted at MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey region.
“Should The Man ever team up with “The Notorious” somewhere down the line, we fully expect to witness the internet’s collective head exploding.”

As for McGregor possibly making an appearance at WrestleMania 35, while the temptation might be there on McGregor’s part, he remains under contract with UFC, so he would need to get permission to make any type of WWE related appearance. It’s possible UFC could allow him to participate at the event similar to the way Ronda Rousey participated alongside The Rock at WrestleMania 31, however, it is unlikely the MMA juggernaut would allow McGregor to compete in a match.

BREAKING: Major Title Change And Heel Turn On WWE 'Smackdown' Forces Change To 'Survivor Series' Match

The final stop on the road to WWE Survivor Series certainly provided a newsworthy two hours, as this week’s Smackdown Live featured the announcement of two major PPV match changes following the events which transpired on the show.
As noted, Becky Lynch suffered an injury during the invasion angle on Raw this week, and WWE confirmed on Smackdown that the Women’s Champion suffered a “broken face” and will not be competing against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series as planned. In Lynch’s place facing the Raw Women’s Champion will be former Smackdown Women’s Champion and Lynch foe Charlotte Flair.

The second major event which transpired on WWE Smackdown tonight left many fans puzzled heading into Survivor Series. It was announced earlier in the night that Daniel Bryan would be challenging AJ Styles for the WWE Title in the main event of the show, and the bout was indeed action-packed, akin to the last title match the two had prior to WWE Crown Jewel.

Much to the surprise of the fans in St. Louis, Bryan was able to successfully defeat AJ Styles for the Title to become the new WWE Champion.
The title change has major Survivor Series implications, as Bryan will now be facing The Beast and Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs Champion match at the PPV on Sunday night. Going into Smackdown Live this week, the bout was set to feature Lesnar vs Styles.

Current WWE 'SmackDown Live' Star Could Be Facing Ronda Rousey At 'WrestleMania 35'

Ronda Rousey’s journey in WWE has been well publicized not only by the pro wrestling media but by the mainstream media as well. The current Raw Women’s champion has fully established herself in the company and she is perhaps the most highly marketable female Superstars in WWE.
But the question of who she will face at WrestleMania 35 has been asked from the moment she first debuted with Vince McMahon’s company. Now there may be an answer. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Comic Book) is reporting that Becky Lynch may be the one to face The Baddest Woman on the Planet.
Photo: WWE
Evidently Lynch has gained such an edge since her infamous heel turn that the company is looking at her in a whole new light. Becky is so hot right now that it may just be enough to book the Irish Lass Kicker against Rousey on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

This news surely comes as a surprise to many WWE fans, who believed it would be Charlotte Flair that would get the nod against Ronda. It seemed like the perfect match due to the status of both stars. Ronda represented the world of MMA and Charlotte represented the world of WWE.
Photo: WWE
But is seems that as Becky’s star continues to burn bright, Charlotte’s has somewhat dimmed. Though the company likely didn’t expect it, Becky has been catapulted to the top and Flair has lost a step. This has apparently affected WWE’s booking plans as it pertains to WrestleMania 35.
It’s unknown if WWE will indeed move forward with Ronda Rousey versus Becky Lynch at WrestleMania and there is still plenty of time for the company to make a different move. Becky is scheduled to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair in a Last Woman Standing Match at Crown Jewel on November 2.
