Lewis, from Middlesbrough, was one of this series’ most popular contestants and was tipped to win the £100,000 prize.
However he was booted out for making the shocking comments and told The Sun Online he wanted to set the record straight.
Speaking from his home, Lewis said: “I was talking to Cameron about getting him some outfits and I said the word ‘Auschwitz’ instead of outfits by mistake.
“It was a slip of the tongue and and then I tried to mock Hitler and did an impression of him saying ‘Kill the Jews’.
The 27-year-old has denied he is anti-Semitic and said it was a slip of the tongue
“It was an impression not a statement of my beliefs at all – and has come out completely wrong and I’m devastated.
“I am not anti-Semitic, I am agnostic. I love all people.
“It was a misguided comment that came out wrong.”
After he made the comments, Lewis went immediately to the diary room.
Lewis was removed from the Big Brother house immediately after he made the comment
He added: “After I said it, I realised I shouldn’t have because it could be seen as offensive.
“I’m not ashamed as it really was just meant to be an impression of Hitler and it has cost me. I lost out on the best part of my experience.
“I apologise wholeheartedly and want to move on with my life. I’m trying my best to be a good man.
“I went in to Big Brother to be myself and part of that is I’m not perfect – I’m far from it and I made a mistake and that’s all it was and all I can do now is apologise.”

The scenes which showed Lewis making the comments will never be aired by Channel 5.
Lewis said he respected their decision to do this and commended how they had treated the situation.
He added: “I know why I had to leave and I understand why.
“I am just devastated that one stupid mistake, one stupid slip of the tongue could lead to everything I did in the house, and everything I feel achieved, being ruined.

“If I have offended anyone, I want them to know I am truly sorry as that was never my intention. I am a good person and I would never want to cause harm to anyone.
“I think you can see from the reaction of the others in the house, I meant no harm by what I said. It was an impression and it was stupid and idiotic.
“But it was honestly a slip of the tongue. I meant no harm.”
Since leaving the house, Lewis has returned home and is being supported by his family and friends.
