New XFL Partnership
The following press release has been issued:
XFL Partners with The Spring League to Reimagine Football
Stamford, Conn., January 30, 2019 – The XFL today announced that it has formed a partnership with The Spring LEague, an elite professional football development organization, to test changes to rules and gameplay as it works to reimagine the game when it kicks off in 2020. Testing during The Spring League’s upcoming season follows the XFL’s first testing session conducted last month, which featured two Mississippi-based junior college teams.
The Spring League will take the field in Austin, Texas from March 28 to April 11 and will provide players the opportunity to showcase their ability in front of the XFL, NFL and other professional football talent evaluators. While doing so, coaches will work closely with football operations executive from the XFL to blend in on-field adjustments the league has been researching and developing since announcing its return just over a year ago.
“We believe that conducting live R&D sessions to test out potential game adjustments in real time is critical,” Oliver Luck, XFL Commissioner & CEO. “Puttung the best product on the field is out number one priority and thanks to partners like The Spring League, we are confident that the changes we eventually decide to deploy will have the desired effect and we will deliver outstanding football when we kick off.”
“This is an exciting partnership for The Spring League,” said Brian Woods, CEO of The Spring League, “We applaud the XFL’s effor to reimagine the game and simultaneously provide out players and additional opportunity to display their talents for the XFL coaches and scouts in attendance.”
In early December, XFL football operations personnel worked with the National Junior College Athletic Association and two member schools, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Pearl River Community College, to conduct its first live R&D session.
“The feedback we recieved from the players, coached and game officials who participated in our three R&D sessions in December was hugely beneficial,” said Doug Whaley, XFL Senior Vice President of Football Operations. “We’re excited to take that feedback, as well as observations from the hundreds of hours of tape we captured, and put these new adjustments on the field in real time with the incredibly talented players of The Spring League attracts.

BREAKING: Triple H Suffers Injury During ‘WWE Crown Jewel’ Match

Triple H and Shawn Michaels reunited in a winning effort against The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel. The match was the main event of course and saw WWE’s four legends come together for a sellout crowd in Saudi Arabia.
But unfortunately, it appears that Triple H came out of Crown Jewel much worse for wear. According to WWE, The Game has apparently suffered a torn pectoral muscle. Hunter is expected to return to the states for surgery.
The match between D-Generation X and The Brothers of Destruction was both extremely physical and highly intense. Fans in attendance responded overwhelmingly positive to the bout, which may have surprised some critics.

Crown Jewel also saw AJ Styles retain his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe. The Bar retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day and Brock Lesnar became the new Universal champion after beating Braun Strowman.
One of the biggest surprises of the night took place when Shane McMahon won the World Cup Tournament. McMahon was at ringside during the tournament final between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler when Miz was supposedly injured outside of the ring. Rather than forfeit the match for SmackDown Live, Shane stepped in for the injured A-Liser and won the cup for the blue brand.

Major Update On Replacement For John Cena If He Refuses To Attend WWE 'Crown Jewel'

WWE’s Crown Jewel event has been mired in controversy for several weeks. It began with fan complaints because once again, Vince McMahon’s company chose to do business with a country that would not allow its female Superstars to perform.
But those complaints became something much more following the death of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Fans believed that WWE should move the event to another venue or perhaps even reschedule for another time. WWE is moving forward however, though John Cena may not be along for the ride.

But according to WrestleVotes, WWE may have a replacement ready to go if John does not make the trip to Saudi Arabia.

I know injury concerns have been making the rounds, but I’m hearing Bobby Lashley is John Cena’s replacement in the World Cup at #WWECrownJewel
— WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) October 27, 2018

Barstool Sports recently broke the news that both Cena and Daniel Bryan were refusing to work the Crown Jewel event. While many fans were perhaps surprised at this news because of both men’s standing in the company, many more likely agreed with their stance.

Cena is booked to work the in the Eight-Man World Cup Tournament, which also features Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy and The Miz. The World Cup is a new addition to WWE and the qualifying matches for the tournament recently took place on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.

Bobby Lashley is currently not booked for Crown Jewel, which means WWE does not have to move him around in order to put him in Cena’s spot. It’s unknown if he will replace Cena on the card or if John will indeed be part of the event.
Crown Jewel has been a major focus for WWE, which led many fans to believe that Evolution has been overlooked as a result. Evolution is the first ever all-women’s pay-per-view and takes place just five days before November 2nd’s Crown Jewel event.

Original WWE Plans For Dean Ambrose Heel Turn Revealed

After many weeks of teasing his departure, Dean Ambrose turned his back on Seth Rollins following their Raw Tag Team Championship victory by defeating Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. Shockingly, even though they just won the tag team titles, Ambrose viciously attacked his Shield brethren, then proceeded to walk up the crowd section into the hallway.
Although the way the turn happened was shocking, the actual turn itself was expected by many. In fact, there was a strong speculation that Ambrose was going to turn against Rollins at the end of 2017 when they had the tag team titles, but Ambrose was injured and shelved for eight months.

With the unfortunate announcement of Roman Reigns leaving the ring and forfeiting his Universal Championship due to battling leukemia, this reportedly made plans change regarding the direction of Ambrose’s heel turn.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Ambrose heel turn was sped up due to the emotion of the night, as this method was considered to be more effective than taking the weekly twists and turns to eventually get to that moment.

It was also reported that Ambrose’s turn was slated to lead to a title program with Roman Reigns. The expectation was for Ambrose to initially feud with Rollins, since that was supposed to be the plan last year heading into this year’s WrestleMania in New Orleans. However, with the report of a Reigns vs. Ambrose title feud, it looks like the Ambrose turn would have led to another twist.

RelatedSeth Rollins Reveals Which Member Of The Shield Is Most Likely To Turn Heel
As we recently reported, The Shield was scheduled to compete as a unit on the Raw go-home show in Washington, D.C. leading into WrestleMania 35. However, with Reigns’ announcement, The Shield as a trio was forced to disband, and plans changed regarding the course of Ambrose’s turn. Even if a reunion occurred before WrestleMania, it would not make much sense now, since Reigns will be shelved for the foreseeable future.

WWE News: Top Heel Slated For A Major Long-Term Babyface Turn

As a result of the shocking announcement made by Roman Reigns that he is once again battling leukemia and is forced to relinquish his WWE Universal Championship, the main event for the Crown Jewel event has now been changed to a singles match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman for the now-vacant title.
For the past couple of months, Strowman returned to being a heel after becoming one of the most cheered people on the roster. However, to opposite The Shield, Strowman aligned with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler in an attempt to take out the Hounds of Justice.
At the Melbourne, Australia Super Show-Down event, The Shield was able to best the Dogs of War. However, Strowman, McIntryre, and Ziggler were able to gain some momentum on a following Raw episode, but eventually, again be one-upped by The Shield. The Dogs of War trio dissolved after the dissension between Strowman and the then-Raw Tag Team Champions McIntyre and Ziggler become feverish, with Strowman powerslamming Ziggler, followed by a Claymore kick to Strowman from McIntyre.

Following the Reigns announcement on Raw, Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo to both show his respect to Reigns, as well as transition into the Crown Jewel main event. The feud between Strowman and McIntyre escalated as Strowman caught yet another Claymore kick.

While it is evident that Strowman is once again a babyface and McIntyre remains one of the top heels of the company, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio revealed future plans for McIntyre.
“Drew [McIntyre]’s long-term is gonna be as a babyface. I think that’s pretty clear.”
Right now, WWE is looking for another face of the company, since Reigns has clearly been the heir apparent to John Cena. Meltzer added that McIntyre could be groomed to be the new face of the company, since Strowman is “one-dimensional.”
“[Strowman] could be the stop-gap guy,” said Meltzer. “I don’t see him as the long term, but, perhaps he will be. He’s the most popular guy right now, so he’s back as a babyface.”

WATCH: John Cena Joins Yet Another Elite Group Of WWE Superstars

John Cena’s exit from WWE’s upper echelon has been a slow and steady process. As the company continues on without him as the full-time face, Cena continues on with his new life outside of the ring.
Now he has added another element to that life. John Cena is now a New York Times bestselling author. His book is entitled Elbow Grease and is No.1 in the Children’s Picture Books category.

The book’s title character is a monster truck but he’s a monster in description only. The truck has four big brothers and the story follows Elbow Grease as he fights to prove himself by competing in a demolition derby. Cena’s fans will immediately recognize this type of storyline, as John’s WWE character always fought to overcome the odds.

John Cena’s writing career may or may not become a full-time venture for him. But it’s obvious that WWE’s former top guy is keeping busy outside of the pro wrestling business. However his time in a WWE ring is not over yet.
John will compete at Crown Jewel on November 2 in the Eight-Man World Cup Tournament. The match reads like a who’s who of the industry, as all participants are former WWE champions.

Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and The Miz will join Cena as they fight to prove who is the best in the world. Whether or not John will return to WWE programming before or after Crown Jewel takes place is unknown. Cena’s next big project is a starring role in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, set to premiere on December 21, 2018.
