A source said: “They drifted apart and felt it was better to be mates. He has been throwing himself into his social life and has just been on a lads’ hol and she is focusing on work, they’re both young and want to follow their dreams.
“They had a meaningful relationship and they’ll remember the good times.”
Isabel, Emmerdale’s longest-running actress, has played Victoria since she was 12.
She began secretly dating Michael, who joined Emmerdale in 2013, in real life a couple of years later.

The pair let the cat out of the bag on July 15, 2016, when each posted snaps from identical locations while on a romantic break in Paris.
Michael, 31, later posted a gushing post about Isabel to mark her birthday.
He wrote: “Happy 24th birthday to this little one. Who woulda thought that 5’2 (and a half) could pack so much love, devotion and attitude.
“Thank you for being the most wonderful and caring best friend a boy could ask for. Love you to the moon and back. X.”

Michael left Emmerdale last year and moved to America this week in order to win a part across the pond.
He said previously of his plans: “My granddad fought in Vietnam and got based over in Warrington, England, met my nan, who was a Scouser, shipped them over to Brooklyn, because his family are from Brooklyn.
“When he was going round the airbases my mum was born in Oregon and my mum was born in Mississippi.

“I feel like I’ve had a big American influence in my life, obviously because my mum is American. I feel like it’s always calling me. At some point I will [live there].
“I just think it’d be so cool to just maybe do a year in New York and maybe go for it in LA, see if I can get some work out there.
“I just want to be an actor that jobs. Like I pop up in an episode of this, an episode of that.
“I’ve no desire to be a huge superstar, I just want to act.”

DEBBIE Dingle will be left reeling in Emmerdale next week as her solicitor tells her she could be looking at five years behind bars for her role in the acid attack which left Ross Barton scarred for life.
As the week kicks off, Debbie, played by Charley Webb, is feeling pretty miserable as she sits on her prison bed and considers the future.
Debbie Dingle could be looking at time in jail
She’s pleased when, at her bail hearing, she’s allowed to go home but her good mood doesn’t last long with her brief breaks the bad news that she could be facing a long sentence if she’s found guilty.
It’s just another kick in the teeth for Debbie who is trying to deal with her daughter Sarah’s heart condition as well as nursing a broken heart after being ‘dumped’ by Joe Tate on their wedding day.
Debbie doesn’t know that Joe was actually killed by his old friend Graham Foster on the orders of Kim Tate – who has been thrown back in prison for driving without a licence.

Debbie breaks down in tears as she faces an uncertain future with a jail sentence hanging over her head.
Fans of the ITV soap know that Debbie didn’t intentionally hurt Ross, despite being the person who ordered the attack.
It was actually meant for Joe as revenge for using her as part of his master plan to take down her mum Charity who Joe blamed for killing his dad, Chris Tate.
But while Debbie only ordered local drug dealer Simon McManus to beat Joe up, he decided to use acid and mistakenly doused Ross with it instead of Joe.
And it was only a matter of time before the police came for her after Ross forced a confession out of Simon in dramatic scenes last week.
