UFC 232 sensationally moved from Vegas to LA due to Jon Jones’ drugs test

Category : MMA , Sport , UFC

JON JONES’ fight with Alexander Gustafsson and the rest of next week’s UFC 232 has been sensationally switched from California to Las Vegas.
An “abnormality” over a recent drugs test sample from Jones is the reason behind the huge move for the December 30 bash.
fight with Alexander Gustafsson and the rest of next week’s UFC 232 has been sensationally switched from California to Las VegasAP
A trace of turinabol was found in the fighters system, but because Nevada State Athletic Commission doesn’t have enough time to investigate, the whole show has been relocated.
It is the same substance the 31-year-old Jones was handed a 15-month suspension for back in 2017.
He was only cleared to return to the Octagon last week.
Now the pay-per-view will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California after plans to use the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas were axed.
Dana White has come out in defence of Jon Jones after the shock news
The California State Athletic Commission will approve a license for Jones to take on Gustafsson at the last minute.
UFC VP of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky insists that this isn’t a violation by Jones, explaining that he and USADA have said that the positive test is a “pulsing” effect.
Novitzky said that there was only a “picogram” level of turinabol in Jones’ system.
He said: “A picogram is a one-trillionth of a gram. If you put one grain of salt on the table and split it up into 50 million pieces, a picogram is one of those pieces of that gram of salt.
“These levels have shown up in the single and double digits of picograms – so such a small amount.”

The NSAC issued a statement to MMAjunkie explaining that Jones’ application for a licence has been allowed to be withdrawn in the state of Nevada so he is clear to fight in California.
The NSAC also said that Jones will go before the board in January.
There statement said: “Today, Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Executive Director Bob Bennett announced that, in consultation with NSAC Commission Chair Anthony Marnell III, unarmed combatant Jon Jones will be allowed to withdraw his pending application for licensure, which was intended to clear him to fight in a major contest in Nevada later this month.
“After extensive analysis of Mr. Jones’ prior 18 months of USADA in- and out-of-competition anti-doping drug testing results, Director Bennett, Chair Marnell and Mr Jones agree that he will appear at an evidentiary hearing in January. This will allow for a measured, thoughtful and comprehensive discussion of his anti-doping testing protocol and results and provide an opportunity for the NSAC to determine the appropriate path forward for him in Nevada. We look forward to this hearing.”

UFC president Dana White, who has been very critical of Jones’ failed drug test past, has taken a different stand this time round as the chief launched a defence of the fighter.
He said: “I haven’t heard anything negative about Jon Jones leading up to this fight – nothing.
“He was willing to jump on a plane yesterday and go take a drug test – like, immediately. If I want to plan a PR for Jon Jones in two months, try pulling that together. It’s tough to get Jon Jones.
“He’s willing to do anything. So, I believe that Jon Jones is clean. He’s in fight shape, and I believe that he’s been doing the right thing.”
White added he would not move the fight just to keep Jones in the event, they would’ve just pulled the fight instead.
He said: “We wouldn’t do it. We’d pull the fight, and the (Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes title fight) would be the main event and the fight would roll. That’s it. We’d roll on. Jones would either go away forever, or – you know how I am – if these guys even doubted that something bad happened here and he was wrong or whatever, the fight’s off. We’d pull the fight.
“Jones didn’t do anything wrong here. All the biggest experts, the smartest people in the world that deal with this are saying that he did not cheat, he didn’t do anything. So how do we not do this fight?”

WWE Reacts To Conor McGregor Offering To Provide 'Back Up' For Current WWE Champion

For years, fans of both MMA and WWE have felt that UFC Superstar Conor McGregor would be a great fit for the Squared Circle if he ever decided to transition from The Octagon. The outspoken Irish-born McGregor has been likened to great pro wrestling heels of the past, and much like Ronda Rousey, might be a welcome addition to the WWE roster.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have both made public statements in recent years making it clear Conor McGregor has an open invitation to test out his skills in a pro wrestling ring, and earlier this week the “Notorious” one had WWE fans buzzing when he issued a Tweet to fellow countryman and WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, which prompted the following social media exchange.

Call me when you need Proper back up.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 22, 2018

Cheers, Conor. I’m carrying two divisions at the moment, but you know exactly how that is. I hear New York is nice in the spring, though. https://t.co/51VSVCCG28
— The Man (@BeckyLynchWWE) November 22, 2018

WWE.com even picked up on the Twitter banter between the WWE and UFC greats, writing, “it looks like Becky Lynch has an ally in fellow countryman Conor McGregor.
“The SmackDown Women’s Champion responded to an article comparing her meteoric rise to McGregor, boasting “The Man channels no one” and that she would break their Irish bond (and his arm) if their paths should happen to cross.

RelatedSteve Austin And More WWE Stars Comment On Shocking Conor McGregor 'UFC 229' Loss And Chaotic Aftermath
“Lynch, who’s had absolutely no issues holding her own as champion, then thanked McGregor for his offer and mentioned “New York is nice in the spring,” alluding to the fact that WrestleMania 35 will be hosted at MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey region.
“Should The Man ever team up with “The Notorious” somewhere down the line, we fully expect to witness the internet’s collective head exploding.”

As for McGregor possibly making an appearance at WrestleMania 35, while the temptation might be there on McGregor’s part, he remains under contract with UFC, so he would need to get permission to make any type of WWE related appearance. It’s possible UFC could allow him to participate at the event similar to the way Ronda Rousey participated alongside The Rock at WrestleMania 31, however, it is unlikely the MMA juggernaut would allow McGregor to compete in a match.

The World Boxing Council commissioned a one-off strap for the August 2017 showdown, studded with 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds and 1.5 kilograms of 24-carat gold.
The green belt was made from a crocodile skin imported specially from Italy for the Las Vegas occasion but the UFC’s biggest star was beaten in 10 rounds and never got his hands on it.
Speaking to his fellow Irish fight sensation on Saturday night, McGregor revealed how much he coveted the belt and joked that he might swipe it back from the 50-0 Money Man.
He said: “I lost out on that money belt the big green one, it had crocodile skin and everything.
“I was sick I was, I would have loving that one. I’ll just rob it out of his gaff.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov calls out Floyd Mayweather for boxing match after Conor McGregor UFC mauling

Category : BOXING , MMA , Sport , UFC

FRESH from a crushing win over Conor McGregor in four rounds – Khabib Nurmagomedov has called out undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
The 30-year-old Russian retained his UFC lightweight title belt after forcing the Notorious to tap out last week, and is now hoping to emulate the Irishman by stepping inside the squared circle.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has called out Floyd Mayweather after beating Conor McGregor
Khabib extended his perfect record in MMA to 27-0, and urged unbeaten Mayweather to fight him to prove who is the one king in the jungle.
McGregor suffered a tenth round stoppage loss against the 1996 Olympic bronze medallist last year, where he was outboxed for the whole fight, and failed to land any shots of note.
But the Russian – who is the only person to have dropped the two-weight world champion – is confident he has the tools in his arsenal to inflict Mayweather’s first defeat.
Standing alongside Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Khabib said: “Hey let’s go Floyd, we have to fight now.

“50 and 0 verses 27 and 0, two guys that never lose. Let’s go, why not.
“Because in the jungle only one king, only one king.”
Before Khabib – who has been suspended by the UFC – added : “Of course I am the king. Because he [Mayweather] can not drop McGregor but I drop him easily.”
To which a delighted Ellerbe said: “You’ll get some of that work baby.”

Mayweather was critical of Khabib’s post-fight actions following his win over McGregor, as he climbed out of the Octagon and attacked his rivals coach Dillon Dannis.
The 41-year-old insisted the Eagle should be hit with a huge fine, claiming he was very unprofessional.
He said: “I’m not too familiar with the guy McGregor was fighting, but I know the guy he was facing was undefeated.
“McGregor is a tough competitor but McGregor’s opponent jumped out of the ring and was fighting people in the crowd so, very unprofessional.
“It’s going to be a huge fine I’m pretty sure because with my fight against Zab Judah, there was a crazy melee in the ring and a huge penalty – a huge fine. If I’m not mistaken, seven figures.
“Not to me, but could have been to Zab Judah or my uncle Roger or even Leonard Ellerbe, so I know when a guy’s jumping out of the cage into the audience and fighting different people, the fine is going to be crazy.”
However, it remains to be seen what the next step is for the retired Mayweather, with talks being held over a rematch with Manny Pacquiao next year.

Ronda Rousey slams Conor McGregor over his UFC promotion antics with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229

UFC LEGEND Ronda Rousey has slammed Conor McGregor over his promotion antics.
The Irishman is currently suspended for the octagon after his explosive encounter at UFC 229 last Saturday.
Ronda Rousey has slammed Conor McGregorWWE
Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Notorious by submission in the fourth round to retain his lightweight title in Las Vegas before the real drama unfolded after the fight.
Moments after downing McGregor with a rear naked choke, the Russian jumped out of the octagon to confront Dillion Danis, sparking wild scenes and a mass brawl.
That followed months of bad blood between the pair, with McGregor receiving community service and ordered to attend anger management courses after attacking Nurmagomedov’s bus at the Barclays Centre in New York in April.
Rousey, the former women’s bantamweight champ in UFC, is now forging a fine career for herself in the world of wrestling after joining WWE earlier this year and becoming Raw women’s champion.

But she still keeps her eye on events in the Octagon and has now voiced her opinion on the shameful events surrounding McGregor’s loss to Nurmagomedov.
She told TMZ: “I understand promoting fights and having to sell them. I really do, but I don’t think people have to get arrested in order to do that.

“I think I’ve been able to prove that you can make a fight exciting and make people really wanna see it without crossing any legal lines.
“I think that Khabib jumping out of the Octagon was not as bad as throwing objects at a bus, because my friend Rose Namajunas was on that bus. My friend, Michael Chiesa, missed his fight because [he suffered an injured after being cut by the glass].”

When asked if she believes Khabib should be punished for his actions at UFC 229, Rousey hinted that McGregor is receiving “special treatment” from the organisation as he is the “bigger draw.”
She said: “I think, if you’re gonna draw the line there, you should have drawn it before that.
“I just feel like there has to be equal treatment all the way across the board. I don’t think that anyone should get special treatment because they’re a bigger draw.

“I would be much more strict about everything. I say you get popped for steroids once, you’re banned for life. You know, but then again I’m not the promoter of a multi-million dollar organization.
“It’s just you have to think about, you know, from their perspective when is it not worth it anymore? I don’t want the company to be prioritising this quarter over the next 10 years.”
“I don’t want it to get to the point where people are not buying tickets to go see fights live, because they are afraid of what could happen in the arena.”

The Highly Anticipated Brock Lesnar UFC Title Fight Might Not Happen

Former WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will be making his return to the squared circle at the upcoming WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, at which The Beast will face Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match for the Universal Title. Following the bout, it is expected that Lesnar will be taking time off WWE to train for his return to UFC in 2019.
Up until this week, it was assumed that Brock Lesnar will be challenging Daniel Cormier for the UFC Title sometime in the spring or summer of 2019, as the WWE star and the UFC Champion had an encounter in The Octagon following Cormier’s title win at UFC 226.
Photo: WWE
In a new interview conducted for ESPN, Daniel Cormier admitted that he probably only has two fights left in him, and with one already confirmed to be against Derrick Lewis, the other might not include Brock Lesnar.
“Counting the Lewis fight, I think I’m down to two fights left,” Cormier said. “Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise, the fact that I don’t have a crazy, long fight camp to beat myself down. That may prolong it for me, but right now, I think I have this one and maybe one more. I can still fight in March and hit my retirement date. The one opponent that would matter to me most is Jones, because he’s beaten me twice.” (The second win was later overturned to a no contest due to a Jones positive drug test.)
“The one that would mean more financially would be Lesnar. I think I would always pick the one that means more, but my wife might have something to say about that.”
Photo: WWE
With regards to Brock Lesnar’s WWE status, it is believed that the former Champion is currently not interested in signing new, longterm deals with WWE, and prefers signing short term contracts which include one or two matches, and allow The Beast to leverage higher money deals each time he renegotiates with WWE brass.

RelatedDaniel Cormier Opens as Early Betting Favorite Over Brock Lesnar
Lesnar’s last WWE match came at SummerSlam this year, when he lost the Universal Title to Roman Reigns, ending The Conqueror’s history-making Title reign in the modern era of WWE. Paul Heyman, the advocate for Brock Lesnar, made his return to WWE TV on Raw recently to announce Lesnar would be invoking his Title rematch clause at Crown Jewel in November.
